Tom Waits Bad As Me |
Who else but Tom Waits would have Keith Richards as a guest vocalist? I love Tom Waits' early albums, the jazzy bluesy folksy tin pan alley stuff. In the post 1982 era my favourite has to be Bone Machine. In honour of the day that is New Year's Eve, here is Tom Waits' New Year's Eve, from his terrific 2011 release Bad As Me.
Tom Waits just doesn't have the ability to write bad songs. Ever.
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year! Great song!
ReplyDeleteYou said it Mike. Everybody is familiar with his songs because his music has been covered by so many artists. Most don't know that Waits was the man behind the lyrics.
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year meleah!
ReplyDeleteyou do know, of course, that "new year's eve" verse is a direct lift of merle haggard's "mama tried," yes?
ReplyDeleteD'you know that the human head weighs 8 pounds?
DeleteYou will have to be more specific. The lyrics don't match in any way.
I hope you aren't referring to Auld Lang Syne. Because Robert Burns wrote that in 1788.
The question really is: did Tom Waits title Bone Machine intending us to think it was a machine that ground up/created bones or was it a nod to his sexual prowess? Oh, and Happy New Year Shawn!
ReplyDeleteHey Joe, happy new year. I just watched Waits 1978 appearance on Austin City Limits. A performance well worth watching/ listening.
